If we look at how things are today in the US and China, I believe that their parents’ decision was correct.
Over the past 40 years, China has completely transformed its society for the better, and since 2009 it has been the world’s leading economy by purchasing power parity.
A country that has given much more to its people than Western countries, having lifted millions of people out of poverty, invested heavily in highways, railways, ports, airports, the country’s education and health systems, and in the public safety of its citizens.
No country is perfect, but when it comes to results for the people in general, we will not see any country match China’s achievements.
May God continue to bless your path in this beautiful land of Confucius.

Many older Indians, parents of Indian Americans, make annual visits to stay in India but return to US to comply with the Green Card requirements. With the Trump admistration tightening up immigration laws, some of them were questioned on returning to US or having their Green card confisticated. You may ask, why don't they just get US citizenship and forget the hazard of Green card requirements. Because, they want benefits from both countries. Thus, if you want benefits from both side, be prepared to face difficulties.

Good video, useful info and great self awareness/wisdom from your young mind!
I first moved to Guangzhou in '99 (as an adult and for my job) as well and very reluctantly left in 2010 to attend to family matters in the States. Luckily I've been able to go back to GZ/China frequently over the years (most recent visit was just last month).
As a person that grew up moving around the world very regularly due to my father's job, Guangzhou became the first place I lived in continually for a significant amount of time and because of that I made some dear, lifelong friends whom I still keep in regular contact with despite some of us having spread out to different locations worldwide. There are also a few still in GZ and it's always fun to catch up with them there.
Because I was an "expat" (though not like the high falutin' ones such as executives from P&G, BP and other multi-national corporations or governments), most of my circle were westerners, though from quite a potpourri of nations (UK, Oz, NZ, Netherlands, Germany, Israel, etc). That taught me a LOT about being a bit more humble and realizing the end all, be all was NOT the USA!
It's funny but I actually consider Guangzhou as more of home than even where I currently have been living since 2010. That's ironic because despite my feelings and affection for GZ and China, I actually wouldn't want to live there full-time again, for a myriad of reasons. So my hindsight tends to be a bit rosier and nostalgic which, I think, is nice and the way I like it.
I'm glad I came across your video here (by chance), look forward now to seeing more and wish you very well.
Currently I'm coin flipping on when is a good time to submit for a new 10yr visa for China in the middle of this ridiculous, unnecessary trade war that a mental midget has started in order to prove how "tough" he is to the world.
(Side note to anyone that needs a China visa: I most recently tried the 10 day visa free entry in China and it worked out GREAT! But just a warning...plan well since it's a "transit" visa and have your entry/exit routes in compliance with the stipulations set by the Chinese government. All will go smoothly if you do!)

@AlysaWonderland
Thank you for sharing! Omg so much to respond to.
1) I was totally the same, my social circle being a "potpourri" like you said of all different nationalities and cultures who didn't fall into any cliques in Guangzhou, and definitely taught me so much
2) Same here, Guangzhou will always hold a special place in my heart, it will always be home to me even if I never get a green card here!
3) That's totally true about the transit visa, a friend visiting just ran into this issue and had to buy a last minute flight elsewhere, so def something for travelers to keep in mind
Cheers and all the best! It is tough to be in the US right now

Your parents had made the right choice and I believe your whole family has seen that China is getting better with each passing year unlike your father's birth place.
You would be better than most of us in understanding China because you can speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
According to Ludwig Wittgenstein, "The limits of our language are the limits of our world."
Many overseas Chinese would love to settle down in their ancestral homeland.

Things are pretty much the same in the opposite direction Chinese in America its just a person’s destiny in life for whatever reasons to learn and understand the difference to teach others we are not much different from one another but different it’s just a second home.
