What is the most Japanese thing ever?

When I was looking for a place to stay in Japan at AirBnb, I was also checking some reviews there. The common reviews there would be “…this place has a nice view, the host is friendly etc.”. Not in Japan. Most of the reviews there were like “There was a lot of appliances available - hairdrier, toaster, kettle (…and the list goes on). However the room was supposed to be 4x5meters, but it was only 3.8x5 meters!”

Aside from the orderly Japanese section, the other one that amuses me is the section for combined Hong Kong and Macau and how the people from Hong Kong are visibly determined to ensure their own identity is maintained by sticking to the left.
The relative overcrowding also mirrors the housing situation in HK. I actually never noticed till you mentioned this.
I was surprised to see how paranoid the Japanese are, while the Chinese are pretty much the same as us Americans.
He's talking about the flags on the image. Hongkong and Macau flags.
Adrian’s point is that Hong Kong people does not like to be associated with being from Macau.
Nah, even if the other flag sharing the same box is other countries Hong Kong people wants to be associated with, most will just be very obedient and keep to the left of the box, because that is the way to show your own identity.
Well true, If there was a poll where my country and another similar country’s flag was in the same section, I'd stick on my own side even if I liked the other country a lot for no reason other than the fact that I’m obxtively from my own country haha. Still interesting to think about.
And, by golly, they are going to be orderly about it.
Japan and Germany must have been relatives in a previous life.
Well they both caused a bit of trouble for the allies in WW2.

No, just, no. Please get help. Our countries did a lot wrong back then.
The “West” is who?

As a Malaysian which worked in both Germany & Japan, America for a while and of course my own country, i must say they are very systematic structured people when working as a team.
Other societies are a mess to get teams to work together. Chinese is the hardest to deal with followed by Americans.
As for my countrymen, we are just a bunch of idiots when compared to all.
Societies need to stop thinking in terms of me but more to us and for the good of all.
As for Malaysians, we still need alot of education and exposure.

What about the Axis during WW2. Japan and Germany allied together because they both thought they were superior races during WW2.
that's wrong. Hitler actually perceived the Japanese as an inferior race. When the Japanese defeated the British Eastern Fleet at Malaya, Hitler said: "As an ally we are happy, but as Aryans, we must be sad."
tomayto, tomahto and potayto, potahto. Japan and Germany were committing massacres during WW2. At least Germany apologized what they have done to Jewish. Japan on the other hand, have never written the correct history in their history books, shame on Japan!

rightly so. the germans have lifted the entire globe with their creations while rest of the world lived in mud huts. give credit where its due. be grateful and dont resent the success and superiority of others.

Do Japanese people staying at hotels carry measuring tapes with them?
of course, we all do. not only that, we also carry scissors, hammers, calculators, bow and arrows, corona vaccines, replica of tokyo tower, sushi, ramen, king sized bed, sofa, book shelf and baseball stadiums as well. at all times.

The Spanish, though not numerous, seem to give themselves plenty of space between the dots on the chart. I'd gather that they value their space.
This pattern seems to parallel their political sphere in the case that Spain is made of distinct autonomous communities and former kingdoms who try to maintain their space and legislative jurisdiction. In other words, a kingdom of kingdoms.
Perhaps I've over-psychoanalysed this but that is my take on the graph.
Now I’m psychoanalysing the countries’ scattered dots, looking for patterns… Canada attempted a grid towards the lower half of its section, Australia made a bird and I get the feeling China’s citizens are trying to create a character, given the matching ‘swoops’!
I see a happy face!
China, USA, and South Korea looks like Indonesia’s traffic jam 24/7.
Too bad Germany isn’t on that board. They probably would have been just as orderly.
I being the poor Indian, keep hoping somewhere my dear country would be listed somewhere as well…other than ‘others’!
What country is the first flag for?

France

Is that really blue? Looked like black for me. If it is blue, it makes more sense. Black would be very impolite actually.
I think it's easy to notice a fortune cat Maneki Neko in Japan. If you speak Vietnamese, try this website to read about them https://meothantaishop.com/pages/meo-than-tai-tu-a-den-z

That AirBnb thing cracked me up :D
Based on my experience and knowledge of Japanese people in general and looking at the photos, I would agree with Precision and add that they are all very uniform. Just look at how modest, kind, most of them are and the inclination to stay in order. Based on the stickers alone you can tell the Japanese are the most clean and in order, each person align their sticker with the rest as if socially keeping in order. Then you look at the stickers for other countries, to each their own self and a mess.
This is a generalisation but I’d say the way the Japanese place their stickers speaks a lot for their people’s inner qualities.
An addition to the “precision” quality, I remember reading a story here on Quora of how precise and on-time trains in Japan are, like they're not even a minute early or delayed.

Interestingly, some of the orderly behaviour of the Japanese may come down to the so-called Rice Theory in which rice-growing societies are overly communal and collaborative contrasting with more individualistic wheat, barley and corn growing societies. In Japan’s case such behaviour may have become more pronounced due to the nation’s relative isolation.

Does this extend into perfectionism very often?
Order?
No
If this place has a rule written on it: Please line up neatly
Then I admit that this is order
But this is not the case, there are no rules here.
They still do it, I think it is blind obedience
They are thinking: How can I do it? I don’t know, then it can’t be wrong to do the same as others!
This is a typical Japanese mentality. It is easy for the whole country to fall into extremism because of the wrong choices of a few people. This is very dangerous
Yes. This is why things made in Japan are often well made. But it can lead to too much perfectionism and things being expensive.
Shouldn’t the EU ones be combined?

Look at the response by Japanese to the survey, “Where are you from?”, (top row, 3rd from left), then compare it’s orderliness with the responses by other nationals. NB: Each red dot represents a person/group.

i don’t know the meaning the survey? you said the precision only because they stick the label on straight lines?
The American one is quite interesting too. You will notice they tried to give each other some space.

we can see most of Japanese are following the rules like they respect to their emperor.

I remember seeing a TikTok with this, but instead of the Spanish flag there was a Mexican flag and the red dots where organized in the form of a sentence “Puto el que lo lea.” which can translate to “If you can read this, you gay.”
I love to see how every frx is counted in this case.

Also their dovetail cuts in wood are insane, the quality is unreal on a lot of old Shinto temples-no nails or screws, just wood cut and wedges expertly together (by hand!).

This survey by Japan was not for Hindus but for Musli.... They can live in densely populated places. Hindus worship lord Sun and not bury the dead like Musli.../Christians. So hindus need place to burn effigies/death and welcome “a change”. How can HINDUS live in limited space?

In Japanese cities, space is at a premium.
The large cities are overcrowded and stifling.
The only time to really feel any freedom is very early morning when nobody is around.
